The Castle of the Knights Templar in Ponferrada

Ponferrada is a town deeply rooted in medieval history.  The original gate to the city was built in 1249 AD and is still standing today.  Take a look.

One of Ponferrada’s prominent features is the Castle of the Knights Templar.  The castle was constructed between the 12th and 14th centuries and is a heavily fortified structure that continues to withstand the test of time.  The castle is currently owned by the King of Spain. 

A foreboding presence in medieval times.  Our hostel is a 5-minute walk from this castle.

    So great you have some free time to explore the city, its rich history and environs. Also looks like you have some great weather. The castle is so impressive! I remember being wowed by it in October 2017 as well. Robin
