France

Martin, Siobhan, and I headed out the door at 6:15 yesterday morning and headed to France for the day.  An hour from their home is a town called Folkstone, on the northern bank of the English Channel.   I wondered how we were getting across the channel. There is the Channel Tunnel, which is a train you drive onto, and the train goes through a tube under the English Channel and leaves you in Calais, France.  It’s a 36-minute journey.  What a marvel!

You simply drive onto the train.
Relax in your car for 36 minutes.
And you’re in France!

Le Touque

This town is on the ocean and filled with the quaint atmosphere of rural France.

A fine French lunch was enjoyed here
It’s important when in France to have a crepe!

Beach fun!

The Etaples Military Cemetery

France has many military cemeteries throughout the country. This one is a cemetery for military personnel who died in World War I.  There are 11,400 souls buried here. This is the largest World War I cemetery in France.

I have no more words for this humbling experience…

An incredible day in France.

  1. What an amazing day on so many levels. The train/car conveyance is a marvel and the seaside town lovely! Very sobering to see the cemetery, but glad the deceased who made sacrifices on our behalf are so honored. Interesting to see English in the commemorations.

  2. Just as on the day you and I visited Arlington, tears came for this lovely French cemetery. I loved all your pics from France…the charming town you visited. Thanks for sending these. The pics remind you how long humanity has existed, not like our newbie status. Grateful for these ❤️
