Goodbye, St. Nicolas de Flue

Today, Oct. 14 is our final regular day of service at this amazing albergue.  It has been a wonderful experience, hard work, great fun, and filled with permanent memories of Peregrinos we’ve met, the team we developed, and the service we provided to the Camino.  To be honest, we received much more than we gave here.

The new crew taking over tomorrow is here.  Welcome to Susanna and Marcie from Canada, and Elizabeth and Sylvia from Brazil.  St. Nicolas is in good hands!

After tomorrow, our joint day together here with the new crew, the four of us are moving on.

  • Ignacio is going to his home in Segovia and then on to the Canary Islands, which he considers his permanent home.
  • Kellie leaves on Thursday morning to begin hiking the Invierno Camino.  The trailhead is about 100 yards from St. Nicolas.
  • Karen is going to travel around northern Spain, visiting Potes, San Sebastian, Bilbao, and eventually make her way to Paris.  She will head home in late October.
  • Brenda is taking a train to Madrid and then flying to Ireland to meet friends from her second Camino. Then she is going to England for a week before returning home in early November.

Karen and Brenda will continue the blog with our individual adventures after we leave Ponferrada.  Please stay tuned for more stories from Spain, Ireland, France and England.  We love having you along with us!  You all add greatly to these experiences for us!  Thanks for being along so far!

The gentleman in the middle is Roger, who works for the Spanish Federation, the organization that oversees St. Nicolas.  He has been a great help to us all.
